About
History of the unit
The UMA was created in 1995 following the merger of two ENSTA and CNRS research groups: OC (Optimization and Control) and GHN (Naval Hydrodynamics Group), which became SMP then POEMS (French acronym for Wave Propagation, Mathematical Studies and Simulation). POEMS is a UMR (7231) affiliated to INSIS and a joint Inria project team. In 2023, Inria project team IDEFIX (Inversion of Differential Equations For Imaging and physiX) joined UMA.
Until 2012, the UMA was physically separated into two parts, with POEMS located ont the one hand at the Inria center in Rocquencourt and on the other hand at the ENSTA campus in Paris, with OC team. This situation, which was difficult for the cohesion of the unit, was improved in 2012 with the relocation of ENSTA to Palaiseau and the bringing together of the two teams in shared premises.
